Nico Williams discussed his close relationship with Lamine Yamal, saying, "He’s more than just a teammate to me—he’s a friend. I feel like I’m like a big brother to him."

Nico Williams has become one of the most highly regarded young talents in football. The 22-year-old winger was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona last summer, but financial issues and resistance from Athletic Club prevented the transfer from going through.
In an interview with Universo Valdano, shared by SPORT, Williams discussed his career and Spain's recent triumph in Europe. He praised the tactical changes implemented by Luis de la Fuente, noting that the coach’s new approach has helped him perform at a higher level. “We had a fantastic group. Luis de la Fuente has really found the right formula. His more direct style of play has suited me and Lamine Yamal perfectly,” Williams said. “Both of us are wingers who thrive on facing defenders and pushing forward into attacking positions. Our team might not have had the star power, but our unity made us the best.” Williams also opened up about his bond with Lamine Yamal, describing him as not only a teammate but also a close friend. “Lamine and I clicked right away. It felt like we were on a team-building trip together, having a great time. That chemistry really came through on the pitch.”
